A federal judge dismissed charges Tuesday against the former president of the National Border Patrol Council who was accused of funneling union money to finance pornography and trips to see his mistress, CBS8.com reports.

Terence J. Bonner has long claimed that he was set up for political reasons.

“This is about as egregious misconduct as you can find,” Bonner said.

The judge dropped the charges because federal agents exceeded the scope of the warrant for access to Bonner’s electronic devices.

“I would hope this would come back as an absolute embarrassment for the government,” Bonner said. “You can’t un-ring that bell. Everyone is going to say, ‘isn’t that the guy who had the extra-marital affair and had all those images?'”
