An accused serial bank robber who led authorities on a two-hour manhunt took time out of his court appearance Wednesday to thank the FBI, the News-Democrat reports.

“The FBI has been very nice to me,” Carl Frederick Kieffer told U.S. Magistrate Stephen Williams during an initial appearance on federal bank robbery charges.

Kieffer, 49, of Spokane, confessed to six bank robberies in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and Wyoming.

When authorities found him hiding in an Illinois cornfield, Kieffer was on the run after recently holding up a bank, the News-Democrat reported.
