An Arizona man accused of threatening to kill FBI agents had a cache of weapons at his home when FBI agents turned up to arrest him, according to court documents obtained by NBC News.
Agents uncovered three firearms, including an AR-15-style rifle, six loaded magazines, 5,000 rounds of ammunition and body armor at Michael Lee Tomasi’s home in Rio Verde. Agents also found a loaded handgun in his vehicle, records state.
A grand jury indicted the 37-year-old on three counts of threats against a federal official and three counts of making interstate threats related to posts he’s accused of writing on social media.
Agents arrested Tomasi on Dec. 15.
Tomasi pleaded not guilty to each count and is in jail awaiting his Feb. 6 trial.
Between May 2021 and November 2023, Tomasi is accused of writing social media posts to incite violence and threaten FBI agents, a judge and elected officials. In some of the posts on an extremist website, Tomasi targeted FBI agents and threatened to shoot agents “on site.”
In August 2023, Tomasi allegedly posted, “Shoot the FBI first ask questions later. They are terrorists that deserve nothing but to be shot on site.” He also said that FBI agent who “have a problem with that come to my house and see what happens.”
He’s also accused of writing a post about wanting to torture a former federal official “to death,” executing a congressman and subjecting a congresswoman to “the horror of a violent rape.”
