An Arizona man who fatally shot a deputy U.S. Marshal in Tucson in 2018 was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday.

Ryan Phillip Schlesinger, 31, also received consecutive 20-year sentences for attempted murder and 50 years for discharging a firearm during the commission of a violent offense, the Associated Press reports

During a jury trial in November, Schlesinger was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Deputy U.S. Marshal Chase White, a 41-year-old father of four.

When White was shot, he was just four days shy of being deployed as a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserve.

White belonged to a group of Marshal Service employees who were trying to serve a felony warrant at Schlesinger’s house.

Schlesinger was accused of stalking a woman who was a Tucson police sergeant.

Prosecutors initially sought the death penalty but backed off in August 2022.
