Steve Bannon delivered an unfiltered message about federal law enforcement if Donald Trump is elected in November, calling the FBI “the American Gestapo.”
On his podcast this week, Bannon said the Justice Department will need to get rid of “lots of personnel.”
“The DOJ is completely corrupt from top to bottom,” Bannon, who previously served as Trump’s chief strategist and senior counselor, said. “It’s going to have to be purged. It’s going to have to be restructured.”
Calling the FBI “the American Gestapo,” Bannon even questioned whether the bureau should exist. Bannon’s rhetoric comes a little more than a week after Reuters reported that Trump planned to limit the independence of the FBI and DOJ, with the goal of converting the Justice Department into a weapon for conservative causes.
