The National Border Patrol Council officially endorsed former President Donald Trump at a rally in Arizona on Sunday.
“America, I have a message for you. If we allow border czar [Vice President Kamala] Harris to win this election, every city, every community in this great country is going to go to hell,” said Paul Perez, a Border Patrol agent and head of the union’s Local 3307, The Hill reports.
His statement echoed the false claim that Harris is responsible for overseeing border security.
The largest union representing Border Patrol agents has long supported Trump’s strict policies on border security and immigration. While the union did back the failed bipartisan Senate border deal, which Trump opposed, its support for him has remained largely unwavering.
On Monday, the Border Patrol Council reaffirmed its endorsement, posting on the social platform X, “We strongly support and endorse Donald J. Trump for President of the United States.”
Immigration and border security continue to be central issues in the presidential race, with polls showing Trump holding an advantage over Harris, the Democratic nominee. Harris has been taking steps to close the gap.
During a late-September visit to the border, Harris expressed her support for a new version of the bipartisan Senate border deal that Trump and other Republicans blocked earlier this year.
“It was the strongest border security bill we have seen in decades,” Harris said during a stop at Cochise College. “It was endorsed by the Border Patrol union, and it should be in effect today, producing results in real time right now for our country. But Donald Trump tanked it,” she added
