Four CBP officers were recently honored for saving the life of a man who had a heart attack at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
CBP officers Rene Saddler, Karyn Kruzel, Daniel Zmolik, and Bryan Brown are credited with saving the life of a man who was unresponsive, not breathing and had no pulse.
The officers immediately responded to the man and used an automated external defibrillator (AED) and administered a shock in an attempt to revive him, CBP said in a news release this week.
After the man did not respond to the AED, officers initiated CPR, which helped the victim regain a pulse and begin breathing again.
“Our agency has invested tremendously in our workforce to ensure a percentage of our officers are Nationally Certified Emergency Medical Technicians,” said Jayson P. Ahern, Port Director, Area Port of Dallas. “Our officers relied on their training which ultimately resulted in saving this man’s life.”
The men were honored at a local DFW airport award ceremony, which was attended by the heart attack victim’s wife. She thanked the officers and said she was grateful for their quick actions.
She also said her husband has made a full recovery and has returned to work.
