DEA Finds 2,300 Pounds of Meth Hidden in Celery at Farmers Market

The DEA seized more than 2,300 pounds of methamphetamines that were hidden in a truck loaded with celery at a farmers market in Georgia, the agency announced Tuesday.

The DEA said the seizure at the Atlanta State Farmers Market in Forest Park was one of the largest of its kind, WAGA-TV reports

After learning about a semitrailer crossing the Mexican border, agents tracked the meth to the farmers market, according to DEA Special Agent in Charge Robert Murphy.

“This was contained in a cover load of celery,” Murphy said. “It was hiding in the celery. Obviously, we threw away the celery. That didn’t make it to the store.”

The DEA arrested a Mexican citizen.

The agency said concealing drugs in produce is a common tactic for smugglers.
