The DEA claims that homegrown marijuana operations are more dangerous than meth ones.
Meth labs are known to contaminate houses and spontaneously combust, causing serious damage.
But QZ reports that the DEA has turned its attention to marijuana grows because they are increasingly leading to property damage.
According to the DEA, many houses where pot is grown are haphazardly retrofitted with ventilation, high-powered lights and air-conditioning.
“Marijuana grows often cause extensive damage to the houses where they are maintained,” the DEA concludes. “Much like the ‘meth houses’ of the 1990s, many of these homes may ultimately be rendered uninhabitable.”
