The agency has opened an office in the city of Sofia, according to the FOCUS News agency.
UThe opening of an office of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Bulgaria is a sign for strategic partnership and cooperation between the US and Bulgaria,” Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov said at the official opening of the office in Sofia, according to the news agency.
“It is highly important that the opening of a DEA office in Bulgaria will strengthen the country’s role in the neutralisation of drug trafficking rings and now we become a much securer and more reliable external border of the EU, since Bulgaria has a geostrategic location in the Balkans,” Tsvetan Tsvetanov said.
DEA chief Michele Leonhart, who attended a ceremony in Bulgaria for the opening said: “The opening of a DEA office in Sofia is very important, because our access will allow us expand our activity in the region and other countries.
