WASHINGTON — Elena Kagan was sworn in Friday, becoming the first woman Solicitor General of the United States.
Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. swore in the former Dean of Harvard Law School, in a ceremony held in his U.S. Supreme Court chambers.
“Elena Kagan’s intelligence, experience and commitment to the rule of law will make her an exceptional Solicitor General,” U.S. Atty. General Eric Holder said in a prepared statement. “With the addition of Elena Kagan, we are building a strong, effective leadership team to enforce our nation’s laws.”
Kagan is the 45th person to serve as Solicitor General of the United States.
