A former supervisory Border Patrol agent who was charged with fatally stabbing his girlfriend and their 1-year-old son in 2018 was found guilty on two counts of murder Thursday.
Ronald Anthony Burgos-Aviles faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced, the Laredo Morning Times reports.
Following a seven-day trial and about four hours of deliberations, a jury found Burgos-Aviles guilty of murdering Grizelda Hernandez, 27, and their son Dominic Alexander Hernandez at Father McNaboe Park in Laredo, Texas, on April 9, 2018.
“We have proven the truth beyond a reasonable doubt,” District Attorney Isidro R. “Child” Alaniz told jurors.
Prosecutors said Burgos-Aviles tried to keep his relationship with Hernandez a secret and never helped financially with the baby.
He stabbed Hernandez 27 times, with wounds to her head, arms, wrists, hands, back and ear. He then stabbed the boy after lifting his shirt.
“He went for the heart of this innocent beautiful baby boy,” Alaniz said.
