A former FBI agent who was accused this week of storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, previously served as supervisory special agent in charge of Homegrown Violent Extremism for the bureau’s New York Field Office’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, NBC News reports, citing a senior law enforcement official.
Jared L. Wise was arrested Monday and charged with entering and remaining in a restricted building; disorderly conduct in a restricted building; disorderly conduct with an intent to impede an orderly session of Congress; and unlawfully parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
After Wise entered the Capitol, he allegedly moved to the Capitol’s Upper West Terrace and confronted officers, where body worn cameras captured what happened.
“You guys are disgusting. I’m former—I’m former law enforcement,” Wise allegedly told the officers. “You’re disgusting. You are the Nazi. You are the Gestapo. You can’t see it. … Shame on you! Shame on you! Shame on you!”
Wise is also accused of encouraging other riots to attack police, shouting, “Kill ‘em! Kill ‘em! Kill ‘em!”
Wise, who worked for the FBI from 2004 through 2017, was difficult to manage, the source said.
For example, he brought his dog, a large Husky, to work despite being told animals were prohibited from his office in a federal building.
“He should be held to a higher standard because he knew better than anybody else what he was doing,” the source said.
More than 1,000 people have been charged so far for their role in the insurrection. Among those were several current and former law enforcement officials, military veterans, and active members of the military.
