The former high-ranking FBI agent accused of various crimes was sentenced for a second time in two months, this time for concealing a $225,000 loan from an Albanian businessman with ties to the Albanian government.
Charles F. McGonigal, the former head of counterintelligence for the bureau’s New York Field Office, was sentenced to 26 months in prison Friday, the Justice Department announced in a news release.
The 55-year-old pleaded guilty in September 2023 to one count of concealing material facts.
In a separate case, McGonigal was sentenced to 50 months in prison in December for conspiring to violate sanctions on Russian and laundering money to Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska.
McGonigal is one of the highest ranking FBI officials to ever be convicted of a crime.
He retired in September 2018.
The FBI field offices in Los Angeles and Washington investigated the cases.
