An FBI agent who was arrested in Pakistan after authorities said he tried to carry ammunition and a knife onto a plane in Karachi may be released from jail today on $10,000 bail, the Washington Post reports this morning.
The agent has been identified as Joel Cox, who works in the Miami Field Office.
News of his possible release comes a day after Pakistani officials said he would be jailed until at least Saturday while awaiting anti-terrorism charges.
The tone in Pakistan has changed.
“The government can challenge the bail but since the offense is not serious enough they might not challenge it,” a police officer said.
Instead of facing anti-terrorism charges, as first reported, Cox faces charges of carrying unauthorized ammunition on a civilian flight.
American officials confirmed that Cox was arrested after security found a knife and 15 9mm bullets in his luggage.
