The FBI and Justice Department are investigating whether New York Mayor Eric Adams’s campaign received illegal donations from the Turkish government, The New York Times reports.
Agents searched the Brooklyn home of the mayor’s chief fundraiser, Brianna Suggs, on Thursday morning.
Investigators are also looking into the potential involvement of a Brooklyn construction company with ties to Turkey and a small university in Washington D.C. that is also connected to the country and mayor.
According to the search warrant, investigators are also seeking more information on whether the construction company’s officials and employees, as well as Turkish officials, received benefits from the mayor’s campaign.
As a result of the raid, Adams canceled several meetings in Washington D.C. on Thursday morning.
It was too early to say whether Adams was a target of the investigation.
