FBI Director Christopher Wray appointed two leaders to key positions at the bureau’s headquarters.
David G. Nanz, who most recently served as special agent in charge of the Springfield Field Office in Illinois, was appointed assistant director of the Operational Technology Division.
Kevin Vorndran was named assistant director of the Counterintelligence Division. Vorndran previously served as the special agent in charge of the Mission Services Division.
Nanz began his career as an agent with the FBI in 2001 and held a variety of positions before he was promoted to special agent in charge in the Los Angeles Field Office, where he oversaw 11 squads of special agents and forensic accountants in 2016. He was promoted to inspector in the Inspector Division at FBI headquarters in 2019.
Nanz received a bachelor’s degree in political science from George Washington University in Washington and a law degree from George Mason University in Virginia.
Vorndran joined the bureau as an agent in 2004 and held numerous positions until he was appointed legal attaché in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 2016.
Three years later, Vorndran transferred to the Washington Field Office and served as an assistant special agent in charge of the criminal branch. In 2020, he was named chief of the Human Intelligence Section of the Counterterrorism Division at FBI headquarters.
In 2021, Vorndran was promoted to deputy assistant director of the Support Branch of the Counterterrorism Division at headquarters.
He received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Lafayette College in Pennsylvania and a master’s in business administration from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
