The FBI is investigating a fiery crash that killed two people and injured at least five others outside a concert venue in Rochester, N.Y., early Monday morning.
The crash is being investigated as possible terrorism, ABC News reports, citing a law enforcement source briefed on the case.
About a dozen gas canisters were found inside a Ford Expedition, which slammed into a Mitsubishi Outlander near a crosswalk outside the Kodak Center at about 12:50 a.m.
Fans were leaving the venue when the crash occurred.
“The force of the collision caused the two vehicles to go through a group of pedestrians that were in the crosswalk, and then into two other vehicles,” Rochester Police Chief David Smith said at a press briefing on Monday. “There was a large fire associated with the crash that took the Rochester Fire Department almost one hour to extinguish.”
The crash killed two occupants of the Outlander, and the driver was hospitalized. The driver of the Expedition was also sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Three pedestrians were also injured.
“We are continuing to work with our federal partners, including the FBI, to learn exactly what led to this crash,” Smith said.
The Joint Terrorism Task Force is leading the probe.
