The FBI has stepped in to help investigate threats made against Colorado Supreme Court justices who ruled last week that former President Trump is disqualified from the state’s ballots in the 2024 presidential election.
“The FBI is aware of the situation and working with local law enforcement,” FBI Public Affairs Officer Vikki Migoya said in a statement to CNN on Monday. “We will vigorously pursue investigations of any threat or use of violence committed by someone who uses extremist views to justify their actions regardless of motivation.”
Denver police are providing extra patrols near the justices’ homes in the city.
The threats came after the court ruled that the 14th Amendment prevents candidates from running for public office if they’ve been involved in an insurrection.
Advance Democracy, a nonpartisan research group, found “significant violent rhetoric” from Trump supporters online against the justices and Democrats, NBC News reported last week.
