The recent shooting of a Philadelphia police officer is being investigated by the FBI as “a terrorist attack,” the bureau’s director, James Comey, said Wednesday.
TribLive reports that the alleged shooter, Edward Archer, was an ISIS supporter and may have been working with a larger group of terrorists, Comey said.
The rise of ISIS has been a challenge for law enforcement because the terrorist group is inspiring small-scale attacks by individuals.
Comey urged the public to come forward with any information about anyone who is becoming radicalized.
“That’s a choice no parent would want to make, but the choice is not a hard one. If you think your child is on a path toward violence, for that child’s sake, for your family’s sake and for the community, you’ve got to talk to us about it. Because what will come later will be unspeakably painful for a whole lot of people,” Comey said.
