The FBI is investigating Cincinnati’s Metropolitan Sewer District over the hiring of outside contractors.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that agents are examining whether money was properly spent on vendors to provide goods and services.
Those contacts have reached as high as $35 million.
“This is highly disturbing,” County Commissioner Chris Monzel said of the FBI investigation. “It calls into question how the city of Cincinnati is operating the Metropolitan Sewer District.”
City Manager Harry Black recently expressed concerns about the contracts.
