The FBI found no evidence that accused murderer George Zimmerman was racist when he shot an unarmed black teen in Florida, according to new documents released Thursday, Reuters reports.

FBI agents investigating whether race was a factor in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin interviewed police and Zimmerman’s boss, friends, neighbors and others.

In an interview with the FBI, Sanford Police Detective Christopher Serino said he did not believe the shooting was motivated by racial prejudice.

It was Travyon’s attire – a hoodie – that appears to have prompted Zimmerman to confront an unarmed Martin.

Zimmerman “took it upon himself to view Martin as acting suspicious,” Serino said, adding that members of local gangs often wear hooded sweatshirts.
