A veteran FBI counterintelligence agent says in a whistleblower complaint that his supervisor demanded he stop investigating Rudy Giuliani and cut ties with any informants who reported on corruption by associates of former President Trump.
The 22-page whistleblower complaint, which was obtained by Insider, alleges the 14-year veteran of the bureau was prevented from working in what amounted to “a highly suspicious suppression of investigations and intelligence-gathering” that sought to shield “certain politically active figures and possibly also FBI agents” who were connected to Russian and Ukrainian oligarchs.
The agent, whose work includes a long-term assignment to Russia-focused counterintelligence, said those figures included “anyone in the White House and any former or current associates of President Trump.”
Staffers of the Senate Judiciary Committee prepared the statement, which appeared to be leaked.
The whistleblower told Insider in an interview that he was driven to file the complaint because he wanted to improve the bureau, which has the power to hold “policymakers accountable, whether they’re on the left or the right.”
“This is a decision point. Are we going to do public corruption or not?” he added.
