Aaron G. Tapp has been named special agent in charge of the FBI’s San Antonio Field Office.
Before the appointment, Tapp was serving as deputy assistant director of the bureau’s Criminal Investigative Division.
Tapp joined the FBI in 2003 and first worked in the Albany Field Office before transferring to the San Antonio Field Office to investigate financial fraud in 2007.
He was promoted to the Counterterrorism Division at FBI headquarters in 2011 to investigate terrorism funding.
In 2013, Tapp was named supervisor senior resident agent in the Kansas City Field Office.
In 2017, Tapp was promoted to assistant special agent in charge of the Dallas Field Office, where he led the Resident Agency Branch and eventually the National Security Branch.
Tapp was appointed section chief of the Financial Crimes Section at FBI headquarters in August 2021, overseeing the bureau’s Complex Fraud Crimes programs.
In August 2022, Tapp became deputy assistant director of the Criminal Investigative Division, overseeing the bureau’s Public Corruption and Civil Rights Section, the National Covert Operations Section and the Financial Crimes Section.
Before joining the FBI, Tapp worked in the financial services industry. He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Utah and a master’s degree in business administration from Utah State University.
