Federal prosecutors dropped their terrorism case against a former Miami cab driver held for nearly a year on charges that he provided aid to Pakistani Taliban terrorists, the Miami Herald reports.

The U.S. attorney’s office didn’t elaborate on why they dismissed charges against Irfan Khan, 39, a U.S. citizen who is married with two children.

Police arrested Khan in May 2011 in Los Angeles on charges that he conspired with his father, brother and three others to provide financial aid to the Pakistani Taliban, a recognized terrorist group, according to the Miami Herald.

The case made international headlines.

Khan’s brother and father remain in custody awaiting trial in November.

The others accused are believed to be living in Pakistan, the Miami Herald reported.
