A former high-ranking Justice Department official accused some in the agency of using their positions to advocate race over law, the Washington Times reports.
Ondray T. Harris, former director of the agency’s Community Relations Service, said he often delivered warnings to employees for advocating racial issues because of perceived biases.
One of the main roles of the CRS is to help resolve conflict.
“I found that some employees of CRS talked neutrally in public and spoke in the tenor of mediators in public, but behind the scenes, when they talked to the civil rights groups or the perceived aggrieved parties, they’ll say, essentially, ‘Don’t worry. The Department of Justice is here and we’re going to get to the bottom of it,” said Ondray T. Harris, former CRS director.
Harris’ claim comes after the highly publicized report that CRS employees helped organize protests against George Zimmerman in 2012.
