Shane Lamond, a former intelligence officer with the Metropolitan Police in Washington, D.C. was convicted on Monday for providing sensitive information to a leader of the Proud Boys.
The case stemmed from his alleged misconduct while holding a high-ranking position within the department.
Enrique Tarrio, the Proud Boys leader, is currently serving a 22-year sentence after being found guilty of seditious conspiracy for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. His conviction remains one of the most severe penalties handed down in connection with the riot.
U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson delivered the guilty verdict against Lamond, concluding a trial marked by high-profile testimony, NBC News reports. Lamond was convicted of four charges, including obstruction of justice and three counts of lying to federal investigators, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The bench trial featured dramatic moments, including testimony from Tarrio, who claimed he had misled his fellow Proud Boys by falsely asserting he was receiving inside information from a source within the Metropolitan Police Department. This testimony was a key focus during the proceedings.
