Gadyaces S. Serralta was sworn in as director of the U.S. Marshals Service on Friday after receiving confirmation from the U.S. Senate, becoming the 13th person to lead the nation’s oldest federal law enforcement agency.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi administered the oath of office, officially installing Serralta to oversee more than 5,000 employees stationed across nearly 300 locations. The Marshals Service is tasked with protecting the federal judiciary, apprehending fugitives, managing seized assets, and transporting pre-sentenced federal prisoners.

“I am honored that President Donald Trump appointed me as director of the U.S. Marshals Service,” Serralta said in a statement. “Working as a leader in the historic law enforcement agency has been the highlight of my career. I look forward to continuing my efforts for the USMS family and upholding justice, integrity and service to make America safe again.”

Trump nominated Serralta to the role on March 3. The Senate confirmed his appointment last month.

Serralta has more than three decades of law enforcement experience, including his most recent role as U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Florida, a post he held since 2018. In that position, he managed operations in a sprawling region that includes nine counties, seven courthouses, and more than 7 million residents.

Before joining the U.S. Marshals Service, Serralta rose through the ranks of the Miami-Dade Police Department, serving as a patrol officer, sergeant, and lieutenant in units focused on gangs, narcotics, and robberies. He was promoted to major in 2015 and also served as police chief for the Palmetto Bay Policing Unit.

Serralta holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Florida International University and a master’s degree in leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
