A Homeland Security official suffered minor injuries before fatally shooting a suspect who became combative Tuesday afternoon in Chula Vista, Calif., officials said.
CBS8 reports that members of a federal law enforcement task force were taking part in an undercover narcotics sting at a shopping center.
Mike Carney, deputy special agent in charge of Homeland Security investigations in San Diego, was taken to the hospital for treatment for minor injuries after the suspect allegedly became violent. Carney said he feared for his life before he pulled the trigger.
Federal authorities took several people into custody.
Homeland Security officials have not divulged details of the shooting or the man who was fatally shot.
