A 25-year-old accused of planning to blow up a Confederate statue in Houston has been arrested after authorities found high-powered explosives in the home he shares with his parents.

A park ranger discovered Andrew Schneck hiding in the bushes near a 112-year-old Confederate statue with explosives, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Nearby Tony Rice University was evacuated after the explosives, which were detonated by bomb squad experts, were found inside his home.

Schmeck was charged Monday with attempting to maliciously damage property and was placed in federal custody. He faces up to 40 years in prison.
