Hunter Biden’s lawyers are scheduled to meet this week with federal prosecutors to discuss the status of the criminal investigation into the president’s son, CNN reports

The legal team requested an update on the case, which is focused on possible tax-related offenses.

U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who was appointed by former President Trump, is handling the case.

Prosecutors are mulling whether to file two misdemeanor charges against Biden for failing to file taxes, one count of felony tax evasion, and a false statement connected to a gun purchase.

Neither the Justice Department not Weiss’ office would comment.

The request comes amid a complaint to Congress by an IRS special agent who is seeking whistleblower status. The agent alleges that “preferential treatment and politics” are improperly impacting the federal probe into Hunter Biden.
