A Texas woman is charged with threatening to kill D.C. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan who is overseeing former President Trump’s 2020 election case.
Authorities allege that Abigail Jo Shry, 43, of Alvin, Texas, called the judge’s chamber on Aug. 5 at 7:51 p.m. and left a voicemail that began: “Hey you stupid slave n—-.” She went on say she would kill Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, who is running for mayor in Houston, and members of the LGBQT community.
“If Trump doesn’t get elected in 2024, we are coming to kill you,” she said, according to a Department of Homeland Security affidavit. “So tread lightly bitch.”
She went on to say: “You will be targeted personally, publicly, your family, all of it.”
Investigators traced the call to Shry’s cell phone and she admitted making the call.
She told Department of Homeland Security agents that she had no intention of traveling to D.C. or Houston to carry out the threat. But she said if the Congresswoman came to her hometown there would be need to worry.
She was jailed Wednesday and denied bond.
A court document states that, including this case, she’s been charged four times in the past year for similar conduct, and that she suffers from depression and substance abuse. She denied using any illegal substance in the past year.
Her father testified at a detention hearing that he believes she’s a non-violet alcoholic who sits on the couch daily watching the news while drinking too many beers.
