Jared Loughner Gets 7 Consecutive Life Sentences in Arizona Mass Killings

Crazed gunman Jared Loughner, who killed six people in 2011 including a federal judge and wounded 13 including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, was sentenced Thursday in Tucson to seven consecutive life sentences.

U.S. District Judge Larry Burns on Thursday called the sentence “astronomical” and “justified” because Loughner, 24, “knew what he was doing,” according to the Arizona Republic.

“The facts show he traveled there with the purpose of shooting Ms. Giffords,” Burns said.

The 2 1/2 hour hearing including comments from Loughner’s victims.
