Maurene Comey, a veteran federal prosecutor and daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, has been fired by the U.S. Justice Department, according to multiple sources familiar with the decision, the Associated Press reports.

Comey, who worked in the high-profile Southern District of New York, helped lead prosecutions against Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and most recently Sean “Diddy” Combs. Her termination comes with no official explanation, but it’s part of a wave of recent DOJ firings that have alarmed critics who warn of growing political interference.

Comey’s dismissal follows the firing of other prosecutors who handled politically sensitive cases, including Jan. 6 defendants and staff involved in special counsel Jack Smith’s prosecution of Donald Trump.

She had long been seen as a potential target given her father’s contentious relationship with Trump, who fired James Comey as FBI director in 2017. The DOJ recently acknowledged an inquiry involving the elder Comey, though details remain unclear.

Maurene Comey was part of a six-woman prosecution team in the Combs sex trafficking and racketeering case, which ended with a conviction on lesser charges. She previously secured a conviction against Maxwell for helping Epstein abuse underage girls.

The firing comes as Attorney General Pam Bondi faces pressure from Trump allies over the department’s handling of Epstein-related evidence. Far-right figures, including Laura Loomer, had called for Comey’s removal.

Comey has not publicly commented on her termination.
