Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton did nothing wrong when she deleted non-work related message from her personal e-mail account while she was the secretary of state, the Justice Department said in a court filing.
“There is no question that former Secretary Clinton had authority to delete personal emails without agency supervision — she appropriately could have done so even if she were working on a government server,” the Justice Department wrote in a document filed this week in US District Court in Washington, the Economic Times reports.
The declaration by the Justice Department may offer some reprieve to Clinton, who has been hammered with questions after the discovery that she was using her private e-mail instead of an official government e-mail system.
The Justice Department said that U.S. National Archives State Department police says, “individual officers and employees are permitted and expected to exercise judgement to determine what constitutes a federal record.
The issue arose following a court filing by Judicial Watch, a conservative group that has been trying to access Clinton’s e-mails.
