Pittsburgh synagogue shooter Robert Bowers was sentenced to death Wednesday in U.S. District Court. Bowers killed 11 and wounded seven Oct. 27, 2018.
The jury’s verdict, which was unanimous, was announced by U.S. District Judge Robert J. Colville shortly before noon.
NBC News notes that it could be years before an execution because of the Department of Justice’s moratorium on capital punishment under federal law.
Just 50 executions under federal law have been carried out since 1927, the network reports.
