Bob Craig, retired FBI agent and father of four, is remembered for being a stand-up agent in the field and a regular guy at home.

Fellow agents applauded him for  his “tremendous intellect,” and essential role in busting up  the Pittsburgh Mafia when he first came to town in the late 70’s, according to the Pittsburgh-Tribune Review.

He died on Monday from pancreatic cancer at age 68.

Ex-FBI agent and colleague Roger Greenbank told the paper.  “We convicted and incarcerated most of the major players in the Pittsburgh family. The end of organized crime as most people think of it really happened as a result of that case.”

Craig also won kudos from colleagues for his leadership in evidence-response teams, investigating such high profile cases as mass killings in Kosovo, the Oklahoma bombing in 1995 and investigating the wreckage of September 11th’s Flight 93 that crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pa.
