Robert Hur Defends Special Counsel Report As He’s Grilled by Lawmakers

Special Counsel Robert Hur

Special Counsel Robert Hur was grilled by congressional Republicans and Democrats for more than four hours Tuesday about his investigation into President Biden’s handling of classified documents.

Hur defended his 345-page report, which concluded Biden shouldn’t face criminal charges but painted the president as an “elderly man with a poor memory” and “diminished faculties.”

The report prompted backlash from both parties.

Hur sought to assure Democrats that he did not “disparage the president unfairly,” The Washington Post reports

And facing questions from Republicans, Hur declined to admit he believed Biden was guilty.

Following the hearing, White House counsel spokesman Iam Sams said it’s “time to move on.”

“I think the main thing to take away from today is two words for the American people: Case closed.” Sams said. “When a prosecutor spends 15 months investigating a case only to determine that there is no case here and that there will be no charges, and that the case is closed, it only affirms the innocence of the president.”
