The Secret Service has approved a plan to use bulletproof glass around former President Trump’s podium to allow him to resume outdoor campaign rallies, ABC News first reported

Normally reserved for sitting presidents, the Secret Service is making an exception after the assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania in July.

Last month, the Secret Service recommended that Trump stop his outdoor rallies.

Since the assassination attempt, all of Trump’s nearly dozen campaign events have been inside.

The bulletproof glass will protect Trump from three sides.

It’s not yet clear when the added protection will begin.

“The Secret Service use of UpArmored glass around former President Trump is another step to ensure the campaign is and remains secure,” said ABC News contributor Don Mihalek, a retired senior Secret Service agent. “This isn’t just a piece of glass but a large, bulky and heavy armored glass that will require extensive logistics capability, normally reserved for large-scale outdoor events.”
