Lawyer of Sen. Robert Menendez, who is accused of corruption, went on the offensive Monday, accusing the FBI and federal prosecutors of lying and willing to “stop at nothing” for a conviction, the Washington Post reports.
His lawyers filed more than 400 pages of legal argument in hopes of convincing the court to drop the case against the New Jersey Democrat and friend of Florida eye doctor Salomon Melgen, who authorities claim bought favors from the senators.
Many observers expected a fierce fight from 61-year-old Menendez, who is fighting for his political career.
