Sheriff’s deputies in the Los Angeles area are accused of unlawfully targeting black residents in public housing, the Associated Press reports.
Deputies for the Lancaster and Palmdale Sheriff’s Departments are under investigation for allegedly making unnecessary stops, seizures and force.
The findings follow a two-year investigation, the AP reported.
“While our investigation showed significant problems in LASD’s Antelope Valley stations, we are confident that we will be able to reach an agreement that will provide meaningful and sustainable reform,” Roy Austin Jr., deputy assistant attorney general, told the AP.
