President-elect Donald Trump has named Rodney Scott, a former U.S. Border Patrol chief, as his pick to lead CBP.
“Rodney served nearly three decades in the Border Patrol, building vast experience and knowledge in Law Enforcement and Border Security,” Trump announced Thursday night on Truth Social. “Rodney served as the 24th Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, where he implemented Remain-in-Mexico, Title 42, Safe Third Agreements, and achieved record low levels of illegal immigration.”
Scott began his career with the Border Patrol in the 1990s, steadily advancing through the ranks. In February 2020, Trump appointed him as chief of the Border Patrol, where he oversaw more than 21,000 personnel and played a key role in supporting Trump’s immigration policies, including expanding the border wall with Mexico.
In June 2021, Scott announced his resignation, a move widely expected at the time. Explaining his departure, Scott said, “Just a simple needs of the service directed reassignment so the new administration can place the person they want in the position.”
Following his resignation, Scott officially retired in August 2021, capping nearly three decades of service in federal law enforcement. After stepping down, he has continued advocating for stronger border security measures.
“After retiring, Rodney has continued to educate politicians and the public about the importance of meaningful Border Security,” Trump added in his announcement.
