Former President Donald Trump said Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino is doing well despite internal tensions over the Justice Department’s conclusion that there’s no evidence Jeffrey Epstein maintained a secret client list.
Bongino has reportedly clashed with Attorney General Pam Bondi over the handling of Epstein-related records, raising speculation about his future with the bureau, USA Today reports. Conservative allies have blasted Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel for falling short of promised bombshell revelations.
“I spoke to him today,” Trump told reporters on Sunday. “Dan Bongino, very good guy. I’ve known him a long time. I’ve done his show many, many times. And he sounded terrific, actually. No, I think he’s in good shape. He’s a terrific guy. I’ve known him a long time.”
Trump did not say whether Bongino planned to stay in his role but offered no indication of an imminent departure.
Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and right-wing commentator, joined the administration earlier this year. The Justice Department recently said its review of Epstein’s materials turned up no incriminating “client list,” contradicting Bondi’s earlier claims that the files contained major revelations.
Bondi later clarified her comments, saying the “client list” reference was about reviewing the overall case file, not a literal list of names. The explanation hasn’t satisfied Trump’s base, with some accusing her of misleading the public.
Neither Bongino nor Bondi has publicly addressed reports of internal disagreements. FBI Director Patel said on social media that he has no plans to step down.
