A convicted rapist who was nicknamed by federal law enforcement for his foul breath has been arrested in California after more than 16 years on the run.

Tuen Kit Lee, known as the “Bad Breath Rapist,” was found guilty of raping and kidnapping a co-worker in 2007 after breaking into her Massachusetts home. A notable piece of evidence was his rancid breath.

“He was ultimately identified by DNA and his horrible breath,” the Massachusetts State Police said in a statement.

Before he could be sentenced, he fled.

His freedom came to an end after investigators, with the help of tips, tracked him to Contra Costa County in California, the U.S. Marshals said in a statement.

U.S. Marshals and local police spotted him leaving a “multi-million dollar residence,” authorities said.

“His female companion, after 15 years of being together in California, never knew who he really was,” state police said in a statement.
