A Utah man is facing terrorism charges after police say he placed an incendiary device under a news media vehicle in Salt Lake City.

Adeeb Nasir, 58, of Magna, was arrested Sunday after authorities said the device was lit but “failed to function,” ABC News reports. The FBI took over the case and, with local bomb squads, executed a federal search warrant at his home Saturday.

“The FBI discovered what appeared to be potentially hazardous materials that could pose a threat to public safety,” the agency said in a statement to ABC News.

Investigators said a second individual, identified only as Adil, was linked to the case, though arrest records have not been found. The two lived at the same residence, where authorities reported finding two hoax weapons of mass destruction, two firearms, and illegal narcotics. Nearby homes were evacuated during the search.

Nasir faces nine charges, including two counts of weapon of mass destruction and two counts of threat of terrorism. He was booked into Salt Lake County Jail and ordered held without bail.
