A veteran Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer who refused to release an illegal immigrant because he was not considered a priority target faces suspension and potential termination, Fox News reports.
“They’re punishing law enforcement officers who are just trying to uphold U.S. law” Chris Crane, president of the National ICE Council, told Fox News.
Investigating a car that had a license plate flagged for illegal immigration activity in Newark, Del., led to the arrest of a 35-year-old immigrant from Mexico. It turned out he was not who agents thought he was, but the officer refused to release the subject, saying the man was in the country illegally, FOX reported.
Top ICE officials ordered the release, saying the suspect was not a priority.
