A handful of Republicans are threatening to torpedo the long-delayed plan to build a new FBI headquarters outside of Washington D.C.

A bill introduced by U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., is intended to stop all spending on the headquarters in Virginia or Maryland, FOX5 reports

Gaetz said he introduced the bill because the FBI launched an investigation “for no good law enforcement reason, but to advance a political agenda.”

Former President Trump called on Republicans to defund the FBI and Justice Department after he was arraigned on 34 counts of falsifying business records this week.

It wasn’t immediately clear how much support the five Republicans have for the bill or if the legislation can stop the federal government from building the headquarters.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, a Democrat, called the bill “dangerous.”

The federal government has narrowed down the proposed sites to three finalists – Springfield, Greenbelt and Landover.
