The FBI is investigating the leak of a trove of classified documents that ended up on social media sites, and the Pentagon is limiting who has access to similar information, NBC News reports

The Pentagon is also conducting an internal investigation into how the documents, which detailed Ukraine war plans and intelligence on U.S. allies, were obtained. That probe is being led by Milancy Harris, deputy under secretary of defense for intelligence and security.

The FBI is heading up the criminal investigation.

Former officials said the investigation could be quick because the number of people who had access to the records “is relatively small.”

It appears the documents are daily briefing materials for the top members of the Joint Chief of Staff.

“U.S. agencies should be out there looking for classified information, doing sweeps of the web, every day,” one official said. “This took way too long to identify.”
