A woman brandishing a handgun at the FBI’s Seattle Field Office prompted an hours-long standoff Wednesday before being arrested.
The woman entered a public waiting area where people need to be buzzed into the lobby, FBI spokesperson Steve Bernd told the Associated Press.
She aimed the gun at herself, and a hostage negotiation team eventually coaxed her into dropping the gun and surrendering.
No one was injured in the standoff.
“We are continuing to investigate her motives, and no charging decisions have been made yet,” the FBI said in an emailed statement.
The incident is just the latest in an increasing number of threats against the FBI. In 2022, a man tried to breach the bureau’s Cincinnati Field Office with an AR-15 rifle and nail gun, prompting a standoff that ended in his death.
In August, a 48-year-old Navy veteran rammed an SUV into a security gate at the bureau’s Atlanta Field Office.
