The FBI executed a search warrant to seize the phone of Rep. Andrew Ogles, R-Tenn., on Friday, the congressman said Tuesday.
He and his attorney said Ogles plans to fully cooperate with the bureau.
“We are cooperating at this point and we will see where the investigation goes,” Ogles’ attorney G. Kline Preston IV said.
Ogles, who won a contested primary election the day before, was endorsed by former President Trump and is a first-term member of the conservative Freedom Caucus.
According to Ogles on the social media platform X, the FBI is investigating “mistakes in our initial financial filings that have been “widely reported for months.”
On his campaign finance reports, Ogles initially reported that he loaned his 2022 campaign $320,000, but recently adjusted it to remove the loan.
The Campaign Legal Center, a nonprofit congressional watchdog group, filed an ethics complaint against Ogles because of the loan discrepancies.
He’s also accused of failing to report a $700,000 line of credit that he opened in 2022.
“I am confident all involved will conclude that the reporting discrepancies were based on honest mistakes, and nothing more,” Ogles said in the post.
